Our 2 day tour of Florence began with a panoramic view of the city from Michelangelo Square, enabling us to take in its entirety from the hills above Florence . We then visited the Accademia Gallery for a docent tour and viewing of the statue of David. We had a wonderful Tuscan dinner outside the city under a wisteria arbor. The next morning we were off for a walking tour of the historic center, which included Santa Croce Piazza, the Cathedral, with its Baptistry and Giotto’s Bell Tower, city hall and Plazza Vecchio, a walk pass the Uffizi and the Ponte Vecchio bridge with some time for shopping. Later that day, we visited the Tuscan Village of San Gimignano, with a brief visit to the American Military Cemetery outside Florence. We had dinner at Castle del Trebbio, in the room where the Pazzi family collaborated with the Pope to overthrow the powerful Medici family, drinking the fine wines that were made on site.
