Day 9: At Leisure on the Tyrrhenian Sea

We’re grateful for a day of rest- no schedule, no travel, no sites to visit, just a free day at the beach before three whirlwind days in Rome. From my vantage point under the umbrella, I can’t decide which view is prettier: the harbor with boats swaying at anchor, the gentle surf and turquoise colored sea or the rugged hillsides dotted with terraced vineyards, lemon groves and villas of all shapes and sizes which hold fast to the nearly vertical slope like barnacles on the hulls of ocean going ships. Beauty like this has a way of working itself into your soul like poetry which, in the words of Shelly “lifts the veil from the hidden beauty of the world, and makes familiar objects be as if they were not familiar.””

  1. The view must be so beautiful. In my minds eye I see the painting of the Amalfi coast that hung in my parents house all of my life. Now I envious Diane & you traveling that narrow coastal road. That view will be yours forever. Love M
